Chiropractic is one of the most popular forms of natural health care in the world. Chiropractors work with the nerves, muscles and joints in the body. In addition to chiropractic adjustments, chiropractors also have extensive training in nutrition, radiology and physical therapy. The goal of chiropractic is to maximize the health or function of the whole body utilizing safe, conservative treatment methods. At La Quinta Chiropractic we’ll get to the root of the problem, rather than just treating the symptoms. We service Palm Springs, Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert, Bermuda Dunes, Indian Wells, La Quinta, Indio and Sun City.
If you knew someone who was taking a medication for pain or irritation from a pebble in their shoe you would think they were crazy, right? If you have a physical problem (pebble) causing irritation to a nerve why would you think that there would be a chemical solution? That would not be logical.
Most people know that the best way to stop the pain and irritation caused from a pebble in their shoe is to remove the pebble. They know it is a physical problem causing the irritation, and thus requires a physical solution. That is the basic philosophy behind chiropractic.
Chiropractors work with "pinched nerves" in the body and treat patients without the use of drugs or surgery. When it comes to treating pain in muscles and joints, chiropractors are the best.
Many people initially visit a chiropractic clinics to be treated for pain, but often see other symptoms improve during the course of treatment. Some of these symptoms include: asthma, allergies, acid reflux, fatigue, stress, infertility, irritable bowel syndrome and constipation. The reason for this is simple. Chiropractors work not only with the muscles and joints, but also with the nervous system which controls all of the functions within the body. We primarily service people from Palm Springs, Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert, Bermuda Dunes, Indian Wells, La Quinta, Sun City and Indio.
A neurosurgeon will pay much more than a Chiropractor, Acupuncturist or Dentist because the risk is quite low compared to surgery. It is just like car insurance; if you have a poor driving history and drive a convertible porsche 911, you car insurance will be high. This is because it is more of a risk for the insurance company to take you. They don't play favorites, they just assess risk and that is how insurance companies make money.
There are many research articles that have been done, but here are a couple. This study, published in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics. This article concluded that a chiropractic neck adjustment was several hundred more times safer than taking NSAIDs for neck pain (i.e. aspirin or ibuprofen statistically carries a greater risk than a neck adjustment).
A recent study published in the journal Spine. “found no evidence of excess risk of VBA stroke associated chiropractic care compared to primary care.” 2. Cassidy JD, Noyle E, Cote P, et al: Risk of Vertebrobasilar Stroke in Chiropractic Care. Spine 2008:33(4S):S176-S18 This study can be found in SPINE .
Conclusion: VBA stroke is a very rare event in the population. The increased risks of VBA stroke associated with chiropractic and PCP visits is likely due to patients with headache and neck pain from VBA dissection seeking care before their stroke. We found no evidence of excess risk of VBA stroke associated chiropractic care compared to primary care.

There are well over 100 techniques in Chiropractic and not every technique fits every person. Since we offer many different services in our office, we end up seeing patients in all ends of the spectrum; from fragile newborns to fragile seniors that have osteoporosis, arthritis, hip replacements, knee replacements, etc. Obviously both ends of the spectrum are very different, but sometimes require a very gentile method. One of the methods we use is the arhrostim and vibrocussor treatment tools.
What the heck is arthrostim?
The Arthrostim is an adjusting tool, second to none. It has been continually developed over the past 10 years to provide state of the art research on the effects of treatment using this device. No device will replace the effectiveness of the hands and the Arthrostim device does not intend to. Instead it assists the practitioner in mobilizing and correctly aligning the spine. Much like no machine will ever replace a surgeon, but the added technology does help in many cases. Just look at the benefits of arthroscopic surgery today. You can get a cheaper, more effective surgery and take less risk with today’s arthroscopic surgeries.
How does this make it less force?
The idea is to divide the normal force of a chiropractic adjustment into 12-14 smaller forces, distributed each second. This way there is more comfort by the patient and better control by the practitioner.
This does not replace a specific hands-on adjustment, but it is yet another tool to loosen up those fixated joints, that are pinching on the nerves. Also, since a hands-on adjustment requires the doctor to get leverage, it will also require the patient to move into different positions. If they are in a lot of pain, sometimes this is not possible, which is where an instrument comes in handy once again.
What does it feel like?
It will feel like a vibration running through the area being treated. The vibrations will loosen the joints, and slowly move the bones off the nerves and restore motion. It may not be as dramatic as a hands-on adjustment, but for some this is all they need. Over the next several hours the patients will gradually feel better, and over the next few treatments they will be pain free.
What is a vibrocussor?
The VibroCussor is very different from a traditional vibrator massage. Most of these old machines create a distinct ‘back and forth’ motion across the surface of the body. The VibroCussor by comparison, produces an ‘up and down’ compression motion, much like a piston. This will create a wave that will travel through the body’s deepest connective tissues. This is yet another way to free up those adhesions that cause us so much pain.
