Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction (TMD) or some call TMJ

More than 15% of American adults suffer from chronic facial pain. Two joints and several jaw muscles make it possible to open and close the mouth. They work together when you chew, speak, and swallow.

Symptoms of TMD or some call TMJ consist of pain, limited mouth opening, crepitus and a clicking sound.

Typically, treatment of TMD, a disease that negatively affects the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) or the surrounding muscles, is non-specific, with a wide range of therapies including acupuncture, chiropractic, medications and physical therapy-not producing full results.

However, when one uses a unique combination of acupuncture, chiropractic and physical therapy works wonders, especially when it is done in conjunction with a dentist. One study, titled “Effectiveness of Combining Manual Therapy and Acupuncture on TMD: a retrospective study” investigated the combined use of chiropractic with acupuncture in treating patients with TMD. The results were great.

There was a 69.1% decrease in TMJ pain after 8-12 treatments.
